There are presently three (3) core programs of SAMFU
1. The Liberian Forest and Human Rights Campaign (LFHRC)
GOAL:
To protect the rainforest, promote respect for the individual and collective rights of rural people to forest resources while working closely with them towards this end. The key objective of the program is to ensure the sustainable management of Liberia's natural resources and monitor the activities of national and multinational cooperations and its impacts on the environment and people.
OBJECTIVES:
To ensure the sustainable management and operations of logging concessions;
To increase the participation of rural people in the decision making processes relative to forest utilization including granting and management of logging concessions;
Transparency and accountability in the overall operations of the timber industry;
To ensure substantial amounts of the revenue generated from the timber trade returns to rural communities for sustainable development projects;
To ensureLogging companies respect the human rights of rural people in communities where they operate.
To monitor the policies and operation of national and multinational cooperations and their effects on the environment and its people.
To Build the capacity of rural people to become more proactive and participate in decision making relative to natural resources and issues relating to their lives; and
Empower rural people through the provision of community driven alternative livelihoods to promote the conservation of biodiversity.
2. The Liberia Sea Turtle Program (LSTP)
GOAL:
To promote the long-term survival of sea turtles, including the sustained recover of depleted stocks, taking into consideration the integrated well-being of residents of coastal communities with which they interact.
OBJECTIVES:
Collect and collate basic data about sea turtles, including species identification, level of occurrence, diversity, etc.;
Profile coastal communities in the sector including socio-economic activities, population, agricultural activities, etc.;
Profile beaches (ecological characteristics);
Gather information about other protected (endangered) marine species that occur in the sector including Manatees, Dolphins, Sharks, etc.
To identify threats facing sea turtles nesting in coastal communities and those active in the coastal waters; and
Identify priority coastal communities to initiate community-based conservation program.
3. PEACE BUILDING AND COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
GOAL:
TO contribute towards the restoration of sustainable peace and development of Liberia through training, conflict mediation and sport games .
OBJECTIVES:
Strengthening existing local mechanism for peaceful settlement of conflict in rural communities; and
training and engagement of community peace mediators in rural communities.
Increased interaction/engagement of youth of various districts of grand gedeh and River Gee counties;
